USS Yorktown
Phillips was chosen to completely abrasive blast and apply a new high performance coating system on all exterior surfaces of the ship. The "fighting Lady", known more formally as the USS Yorktown, is part of Patriots Point Museum in Charleston, SC. If painting an aircraft carrier isn't difficult enough, the many years of paint build-up contained lead, requiring 40,000CFM dust collection to pull negative air pressure inside our containments, a decon trailer and steel grit recycling/blasting equipment. Using steel grit and recycling abrasives saves our customers large fees for hazardous disposal. In the midst of this intensive work, there was minimal interruption to the museum's business, as it stayed open for visitors.

Our company has been lead certified since 1994, one of the first to be so, and the only South Carolina based company to hold QP#2 certification.

Phillips also uses Sponge-Jet micro-containment system for lead abatement. Sponge media is an open-celled, polyurethane particle, impregnated with abrasives. Sponge-Jet offers fast, dry, clean and safe surface preparation on most substrates.
